Type Illustrations School Project

I designed a self portrait made out of my own type to one of my favorite songs (Earthquake by The Used). I liked how playful and colorful it turned out and the way the letters were able to translate into my face. This piece inspired me to create more type illustrations with interesting shapes. These would essentially create a series.

I decided to create a rotary phone and an octopus out of my own type because of their unique shapes. I took an image of the objects, traced them with the pen tool, created my hand lettering, and then traced my hand lettering with the pen tool. I used to eye dropper tool on the image to come up with colors that pop. I added a background color to enhance the colors of the objects. The song I chose for the phone is Hey You by Pink Floyd. The song I chose for the octopus is Lateralus by Tool.
